  1. Columbia River Gorge  -  Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, OR. and WA.  As the Corps moved through the Gorge, they noted the tidal effect of the rising and falling water level at the shoreline.  This was yet another sign that they were getting closer to their destination.
